Art & Crafts
Majority of my work over the past decade has been digital, but on occasion I do like to create with my hands. There is a different sense of accomplishment to know you physically created something rather than finalized a file.
The Arts
From time to time I do like to break out the “old school” mediums and give it a try. I think these photos are suffice to say that my style is abstract. First is ink on paper. Though intended for calligraphic purposes, I dropped ink onto wax paper and then smeared it on the drawing paper. Second is pen on paper. Using a circle stencil I traced sequences of varying sizes of circles across the paper and then randomly colored in intersecting areas.
The Crafts
For some time I had a tradition of “creative wrapping” for my Christmas gifts. Why use just wrapping paper when the presentation could be more. Below are two of my favorite creations. First is the Jeep from Teen Wolf. Both my brother and I really enjoyed this show so for his gift I got him practical items (like the characters would pull out of the Jeep on the show). The Jeep was constructed entirely from black mat board, painted with acrylics, has cling wrap windows, and is situated on an empty shipping box as a base (and reinforcement to bear the weight of the tools inside). Second is one of my first (and more nostalgic) wrappings: the toaster from The Brave Little Toaster. The body is a modified cardboard box with a thinner sheet of cardboard on top for the ‘slots’; all covered in foil-like wrapping paper that I turned inside out. The hands and feet are thin cardboard folded up and painted with acrylic. On top, the slots can hold small thin boxes that are wrapped up with the gifts inside.
